Transportation Planning, Engineering & Management

Improving Milton’s transportation infrastructure is a top priority for the Public Works Department - a reflecting of its utmost importance to Milton citizens.Freemanville.Birmingham.before.picture.traffic

Public Works staff provides the following transportation services:

  • Coordinates planning, projects and funding with federal, state, GDOT, regional, county and local partners 
  • Develops and updates Transportation Planning documents and studies including Comprehensive Transportation Plans (CTP)
  • Provides traffic studies and engineering design
  • Serves as program manager of TSPLOST
  • Manages preconstruction activities of planning, design and right-of-way acquisition for Capital Improvement Projects
  • Delivers infrastructure repairs, reconstruction and Capital Improvement Projects by managing inspections and construction activities 
  • Designs, manages and implements the Traffic Calming Program
  • Implements pedestrian improvements, trail projects, and the Safe Routes to School Program
  • Assists the Community Development Department with site development plan review
  • Reviews right-of-way dedications and coordinates request for right-of-way abandonments
  • Ensures public infrastructure is safe and reliable through roadway management

Public Works Projects 

The City routinely looks for opportunities to improve Milton's transportation and infrastructure network. The goal is for a more efficient, effective network that best serves citizens and visitors alike, all while smartly managing and expending resources.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) manages any improvements on state routes - even if they are within Milton city limits. A separate webpage provides more information on GDOT Projects and Programs. Transportation and infrastructure projects within Milton are spearheaded by the City's Public Works Department, working with contractors and other partners.
