What is the Text Notification System?
This service allows you to opt-in to receive notifications via text messaging. You can choose to get texts related to different categories.
When will it be used?
This system will be used if there’s relevant information to share about the categories you chose from. There’s also a general “City News” option that’s more a catch-all, so covering things like severe weather, major new initiatives, and citywide projects.
Will I still get emergency notifications if I don't sign up?
No, with one major (and rarely used) exception.
So what’s the exception?
Crisis communications. This might be a tornado hits Milton, all of Highway 9 shuts down for days, or an active shooter situation. These kinds of alerts go out to all phones in our area. We expect to use it rarely, if ever at all.
Why do I need to enter my residential address if I want to receive only text messages on my cell phone?
First off, you do not need to enter your residential address. But if you do, it will allow your phone to be reached for emergency notifications pertaining only to a specific location like a neighborhood. In this case, geolocation feature will be used to determine the recipients of particular information. Entering your residential address is not mandatory.
What if my phone number or email address changes?
The system is only as good as the information you provide. If your contact information changes, you can always visit your profile and update your information. On the app, you can use "Manage My Profile" feature to edit any information, including your preferences for alert categories. To change what alerts you’re subscribed to, click on your name, then “Manage My Profile,” then the “Edit” next to “My Subscriptions.”
Will my contact information be shared with others?
No. The information that you provide will be used only by the City of Milton for notification purposes. We will not give or sell your contact or location information to any vendor or other organization, nor will Everbridge.
I cannot access my account or, even if I can get in, something isn’t working. What do I do?
If you are experiencing difficulties accessing your account or have other technical issues, please reach out to the Everbridge team by email at support@everbridge.com or phone at 818-230-9798.
