What does TSPLOST mean for Milton?
Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) provides funding for transportation improvements such as roads, bridges, sidewalks, bicycle paths, and other transportation related purposes. In November 2016, citizens throughout Fulton County voted in favor of a proposed TSPLOST. This 0.75% (3/4 cent), five-year referendum is on track to bring about $32 million to the City of Milton to fund transportation projects. In April 2017, the 0.75% (3/4 of a cent) sales tax went into effect to fund transportation projects specifically recommended by each Fulton County city.
This process repeated itself five years later, when voters approved TSPLOST II on the November 2021 ballot.
What will TSPLOST II funds be used for?
In May 2021, City staff began soliciting the public's input on what types of projects should be funded if TSPLOST II. This included an interactive forum on May 11 (you can view its presentation HERE), an online comment form, a work session presentation to City Council and a project list presentation for approval of the project list.
The final project list accounted for suggestions being offered as part of the in-the-works Local Road Safety Plan and 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The City Council approved final project list on May 24, 2021. Ultimately, voters weighed in on Election Day on November 2, 2021 -- deciding to approve the tax and resulting improvements under TSPLOST II.
