Milton's all-volunteer Design Review Board (DRB) reviews and approves of the design aesthetics of site and building developments so they meet City standard. Each of its members are appointed by a City Council member or the Mayor.

The DRB, as its own, seeks to align proposals so they are consistent with the City’s Overlay District Zoning classifications: Article XII-G: State Route 9 Overlay District; Article XII-H: Northwest Fulton Overlay; Article XII-H(1): Crabapple Crossroads of the Northwest Fulton Overlay District; and Article XII-H(2): Birmingham Crossroads of the Northwest Fulton Overlay District.

Members of the DRB typically have a background in architecture, engineering, construction, real estate, design consulting and other allied industries. Submission guidelines and dates are available by contacting the City's Community Development Department.

DRB approval must be accomplished prior to issuance of a Land Disturbance Permit or the issuance of a Building Permit for all developments, except single-family, detached dwelling units. The DRB also makes recommendations to the Board of Zoning Appeals for all primary variances.

The DRB generally meets the first Tuesday of every month, starting at 6 p.m., in City Hall's Council Chambers. All meetings are open to the public, and anyone is welcome to attend. To view the DRB's 2024 meeting schedule, click HERE.
