Mockernut hickory signMilton is home to many outstanding young people in scouting with a desire, and follow-through, to positively impact our community. Many aim to become Eagle Scouts; others are pursuing Girl Scout Gold Awards. Past efforts have led to difference-making projects such as educational signage, little libraries, benches, and more at City parks.

The City has developed a program to facilitate such projects. For Scouts, this provides an easy-to-use and easy-to-comprehend process to submit their suggestions and work with Milton to follow through on them. For the City, this system funnels all needed info to the right place. And for citizens, it can help the resulting projects have a targeted and significant impact.

To learn about Milton's parks -- perhaps to get ideas on what projects you might pursue -- check out our "Parks and Facilities" webpage then visit the parks personally.

Scouts interested in doing a project with the City – including as part of becoming an Eagle Scout or to win a Gold Award – can fill out the form below. If you have questions, please email parksandrec@miltonga.gov or call 678-242-2575.

Pre-Project
  • Contact City staff and get the Scout procedures handbook, volunteer application form, and project request form
  • Return the project request form to City staff for initial review
  • Meet with City staff at the site of the proposed project
  • Research the project and prepare the Scout Project Workbook with details like funding/resources, cost of materials, funding and other outside sources, time needed to complete the work
  • Once the project is approved, Scout will work with City staff on a time for the work to begin
During the Project
  • Scout will meet with City on-site for a final walk-through and discussion that can touch on:
    • Collection of volunteer forms
    • Delivery of materials
    • Mapping/marking space
  • On workdays, Scouts must consider:
    • Those who don't sign the volunteer waiver can't participate
    • Parents sign waivers for volunteers under 18
  • Photos of the project steps, as well as the project report, must be sent to City staff at the end of every workday
  • Scout will set-up an on-site meeting with City staff for a final evaluation and approval of the project, which must be completed to meet City standards
After the Project
  • City staff will do a final evaluation of the entire project
  • If staff determines there are issues, the Scout (and perhaps his or her team) are required to address them
  • Scout should bring the completed Scout Service Project Workbook to a last meeting
  • Once the project is approved, City staff can sign off on documentation indicating the Scout's work on this project

Little.Free.Library.Girl.ScoutsPast Scout projects performed at Milton facilities include:

  • The addition of a "Little Free Library" at Broadwell Pavilion
  • Creating tree-focused educational signage alongside a trail at Providence Park
  • Setting up a special box in the Milton Police/Municipal Court where old flags can be dropped off (so they can be properly disposed)
  • Building wooden benches and then placing them alongside trails at Providence Park
