The next, final phase in the creation of Milton’s Local Road Safety Plan kicks off Thursday with a new public survey – providing citizens the opportunity, once again, to drive the discussion, and plans, on how to make the city safer for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists.
To take the survey, click HERE: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MiltonLRSP.
It consists of eight questions and should take less than five minutes to complete. Your participation is very much appreciated before the survey closes at the end of Monday, May 30.
The Local Road Safety Plan, known as the LRSP, is a proactive effort to strategically improve the community’s “transportation network through engineering, education, and enforcement that respect Milton’s rural heritage, enhance its quality of life, and make our roadways as safe as possible.” The City launched this project early last year with an introductory survey; the latest one brings it full circle to help officials focus their efforts going forward.
On April 18, Public Works Director Sara Leaders and Andrew Antweiler from the City’s partner at KCI briefed the City Council about the status of Milton’s Local Road Safety Plan. You can check out their presentation by CLICKING HERE. At that point, the project had progressed to the third of four tasks – “identify cost-effective solutions as strategies.” A draft report of Milton’s LRSP at this point can be found by CLICKING HERE.
Once complete, Milton’s LRSP will develop strategies, make recommendations, create design goals, and outline priorities pertaining to these “emphasis areas”:
- Vehicle speeds
- Distracted drivers
- Roadway and shoulder conditions
- Pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrians
- Intersection safety
- Wildlife, particularly deer
Citizen engagement has been central to the development of this LRSP, as evidenced in social media posts, in-person events, and open meeting presentations. This public back-and-forth, direction from City Council, and in-depth analysis by the project team has led to an array of different strategies the City can take. This latest survey aims to focus Milton’s efforts, in addition to collecting other valuable feedback. Executing the finished Plan ultimately will fall on the City’s Public Works, Police and Communications and Engagement departments.
