Milton, GA
Home MenuWater, Sewer and Septic Information
The City of Milton does not provide water or wastewater (e.g. sewer) services to its residents. Instead, people get such services either privately or through Fulton County Water Services. Whatever the source, the State of Georgia does play an important role -- through the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division -- in permitting wastewater systems and water services.
Septic Tank Resources
If you do not pay for wastewater (sewer) services and live in Milton, you are likely on a septic system. A septic system is a decentralized sewer system exclusively to serve your residence. It is designed based on household size, soil type, site slopes, lot size and proximity to streams and lakes.
Generally, such a system consists of a septic tank buried in a water-tight tank; this takes in raw, untreated sewer material. Heavy solids settle to the bottom of the tank. Lighter liquids and lighter solids float to the top to a nearby drainfield, from where they can percolate into the soil. It is the homeowner's responsibility to maintain, repair, or replace all components of their own septic system to protect the environment and public health (and, thus, their own family's health). The links below provide valuable information on operating and maintaining your septic system.
