Home MenuRide-Along Program
The main purpose of Milton's Ride-Along Program is to improve relations between police and the public by familiarizing participants with the complex and unpredictable nature of police work. It can also be a great introduction to daily life on the police force.
- Milton's Ride-Along Program is open to participants 18 years of age and over. Individuals between the ages of 16 and 17 are eligible to participate in the Ride-Along Program only if they are enrolled in the Milton Police Department's Police Explorers Program; individuals under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian's authorization.
- Participants under age 18 are not permitted to ride-along between midnight and 6 a.m.
- A Ride-Along is typically four hours.
- A Ride-Along is limited to one participant per squad or vehicle.
- Officers will instruct Ride-Along participants on their expected behavior prior to the ride.
- Ride-Along participants are not authorized to operate City of Milton equipment.
- Failure to comply with officers' directives or improperly getting involved in a situation will result in termination of the ride-along. Officers may end a ride-along at any time.
- Each applicant must read and complete a waiver of liability prior to his or her ride-along.
- Officers may request additional information they deem necessary to screen the applicant in advance.
- Applicants should present proper identification to officers or supervisors at the time of the ride-along.
- Supervisors and officers may evaluate the applicant immediately prior to the ride, making the final approval or denial decision at that time.
- Applicants not approved for the ride-along program will be notified at the earliest opportunity and provided reasons for the denial.
