The False Alarm Reduction Program's mission is to reduce the number of false alarm calls in the City of Milton. A high percentage of Milton's dispatched alarm calls are false (or, in other words, not worth investigating), which can create an undue and unnecessary burden on responding patrol officers.

A Milton City Ordinance requires all alarm systems to be registered with the City within five business days of their installation. Upon registering the alarm, the user must provide the following information:

  • The complete name, address and phone number of the alarm user
  • The names of all persons authorized to enter the premises and deactivate the alarm system signal, as well as all phone numbers at which such persons can be reached
  • The name and telephone number of the alarm user's monitoring agent, if any
  • If known, the name and telephone number of the person or entity that installed the alarm system

Prohibitions

It is a violation if any burglar or fire alarm user causes, allows or permits three or more false alarms in any 12-month period. Any Milton burglar or fire alarm user also cannot fail or otherwise refuse to comply with registration and equipment requirements.

No person shall intentionally make, turn in, or report a false alarm of fire, false request for police, ambulance assistance or aid, or abet in the commission of such act.

Fines

In order to limit their number, Milton's Police Department tracks false alarms. If a false alarm occurs at your residence, a False Alarm Notice will be left in a conspicuous area. For the third and for each subsequent false alarm that occurs at the same premises within a permit year, the alarm may be assessed against an alarm user as follows:

  • Third False Alarm: $50.00
  • Fourth False Alarm: $100.00
  • Fifth or More False Alarm: $150.00
