When there's a medical emergency -- a heart attack, a broken arm or another health issue that requires medical attention -- people call 911. And when they do, Milton Fire-Rescue personnel work closely with our partners to answer those calls to ensure our community's emergency medical needs are met.
In addition to more traditional ambulance service, the Department also offers some special medical services to our community.

Urban Rescue
Milton Fire-Rescue acquired and outfitted an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) for emergency response and medical calls in parks and at special events. Several wildland rescue incidents (as they're called) have occurred in parks and on golf courses around the city, prompting firefighters to look for a better and safer ways to respond. Milton's ATV -- which can carry EMS supplies, a paramedic and a patient -- lets firefighters help more easily in areas like parks, greenspace and woods that otherwise would be much more difficult to access.
To support this unit, Milton firefighters have a stokes basket -- a kind of metal backboard that can be used to strap in rescue and medical patients to carry them out of difficult-to-reach places, with a large balloon tire strapped to the bottom. This make rescues easier to make on narrow trails, amid trees in places like Birmingham and Providence parks, and other challenging terrain throughout the city. A patient can be loaded into the stokes basket and then wheeled out, over rough terrain and over great distances, to an ambulance without firefighters having to carry the patient and all their equipment. Altogether, this equipment significantly enhances rescue capabilities in Milton.
Bike Team
The City of Milton Fire-Rescue Department deploys a Bicycle Medic Team for select special events. Nothing moves more swiftly through a crowd than a bike medic responding to a call for help. Milton's bike medics receive specialized training and certification through the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA). Used by public safety agencies around the world, the IPMBA offers internationally recognized Certification and Training Courses developed by experts in the fields of police, EMS and security cycling. Milton's bike medics are equipped with basic life support equipment including an AED for cardiac emergencies.
