The Fire Marshal’s Office coordinates investigations into fires within city limits working with the Milton Police Department as well as other local, regional and federal investigative agencies.

Every structure fire is investigated for origin (where it started) and cause (how it started); this applies whether the fire began accidentally or because of a criminal action. In addition to providing useful info to relevant parties, such thorough investigations can help inform the Milton Fire-Rescue Department's implementation of life-safety measures and community education endeavors.

In addition, the Department also routinely investigates car fires and suspicious outdoor fires.

Additionally, investigations are used to look into criminal acts such as arson, incidents involving incendiary devices (e.g. bombs, Molotov cocktails) and the like.

Deer.Trail.droneMany of Milton's investigators are also certified peace officers, which means they can make arrests, serve warrants and testify in court regarding fire-related criminal activity.

Investigations are coordinated by the Fire Marshal’s Office and supported by qualified operations personnel.  All of Milton’s investigators are certified nationally by the ProBoard through an intensive training, testing, and apprenticeship program and maintain their knowledge through continuing education.
