The Milton Fire-Rescue Department regularly leads classes on CPR and other potentially life-saving techniques at different times and locations around the City.

Details about exact offerings will be shared on the City's Facebook page, the Fire Department's Facebook page, and the City's website calendar. They're facilitated by Milton Fire CARES, the department's community paramedicine and public health program.

This training program informs participants about the CPR Anytime line of self-directed learning products, which was developed to increase CPR knowledge and awareness among the general public and/or for those who do not traditionally attend CPR courses. Such education is valuable, and potentially life-saving, considering:

  • Almost 80 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member.
  • Only 6.4% of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive because the vast majority of those witnessing the arrest are people who do not know how to perform CPR.

CPR Anytime can help increase survival rates in communities across the country, allowing people with the kits to share lifesaving skills with their loved ones. Studies have shown that for every single CPR Anytime kit used for training, an average of 2.5 people learn how to perform CPR.

The American Heart Association's CPR Anytime personal learning programs include Family & Friends CPR Anytime and Infant CPR Anytime. It also offers Heartsaver AED Anytime, a credentialed program that can be used in worksites to teach CPR skills and how to use an automated external defibrillator.

In addition, Milton is a “Heart Ready City.” This designation is given to cities committed to community-based programs that improve their residents' "Cardiac Chain of Survival." CPR Classes is a large part of that commitment. Milton also maintains this distinction through community CPR programs and other public outreach initiatives, including:

  • Advanced Life Support services
  • AED-equipped Fire Department responders
  • AED-equipped Police Officer units
  • AED promotion
  • AED tracking
  • Community Connect
  • CPR/AED training
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch System
  • Enhanced 911
  • Outcome Measurement
  • PulsePoint

CPR classes are open to Milton community members 12-years and older. If you have any questions about this educational initiative or any other program, please contact Milton Fire Cares at 770-686-0948 or fire.cares@miltonga.gov.

Classes -- which generally are limited to 10 people -- typically last about one hour. An online/Zoom option may be offered as well that allows even more to participate.

The City of Milton Fire-Rescue Department also offers free CPR classes to large groups, including churches, homeowners associations, social clubs, businesses and various organizations. Upon request, firefighters can visit your group with CPR practice kits and share vital information that you may someday use to save a life.
