We believe in the power of prevention and education.
The City of Milton is committed to providing the community with fire and life safety education program through a range of services for schools, organizations, community events and businesses.
Classes and programs are available upon request and — since our serving firefighters often present the educational program — as the shift workload allows, thus may be canceled in emergencies. Safety messages include home-escape planning, fire drills, smoke alarms and general fire safety. We also provide educational classes on vehicle safety, burn prevention, bike safety, poison prevention, and more.
The Fire Marshal's office coordinates the City of Milton's fire and life safety education programs, supported by the Milton Fire-Rescue Department's dedicated firefighters, who often lead programs on top of their regular duties because they realize the importance that education and prevention play in fostering a safe and healthy community. You can contact the Fire Marshal via email at fire.marshal@miltonga.gov or call 678-242-2546 with any questions.
Programs for Teens and Adults
Our safety classes are age-specific, with each class designed to meet its students' educational and physical abilities. Our programs target most grades and ages with a variety of life-safety topics, though we will visit other grade levels within a school upon request and as time allows.
Milton also offers a variety of fire and life safety programs for adult audiences. These programs can be tailored to meet the wants and needs of the particular or business requesting a class. For example, we provide fire extinguisher training, general home fire safety, evaluation planning and training, and many other programs. Please call us to inquire about making a presentation to your group.
Programs for Young Children
Fire station tours can be given to children of all ages upon request, giving them glimpses at where our firefighters live, eat and work. If you're interested in a tour for an individual or small groups, call 678-242-2541.
Individual classroom education begins as early as preschool. Preschool children are taught “what’s hot and what’s not” during Fire Prevention Month in October and water safety in June. Safety education in the classroom continues through high school.
Programs can vary -- including home fire safety, water safety, injury prevention, bike helmets, 9-1-1 simulator training and making good life choices.
We also visit preschools and child care facilities to educate young children about fire safety and other issues. All programs are age appropriate and include a visit to the fire truck. Safety messages include: match and lighter safety; stop, drop and roll; calling 9-1-1; smoke alarms; and firefighters as friends.
