Ribbon cutting photo collage.2022Ribbon-cutting ceremonies can take place to inaugurate an organization’s first day of business. Or, they can take place weeks or even months after opening. They act as an opportunity for business owners and City leaders to share details about the business, showcase the importance of economic growth, and publicly thank those who had a key role in bringing the business to fruition.

The terms "ribbon-cutting ceremony" and "grand opening" are often used interchangeably; however, they have distinct meanings. Grand openings are large, publicized events that announce a new establishment's official opening to the public. Ribbon cuttings, which can be held both publicly and privately, are typically orchestrated with an actual (if oversized!) ribbon and hold longstanding ceremonial significance. This ribbon is usually cut by the business owner or key stakeholder in a ceremonial fashion with a giant pair of gold scissors!

These ribbon-cutting ceremonies tend to be short and sweet, though there's often time to mingle, share brief remarks, and, of course, cut the ribbon. (Don’t worry: The City will provide the giant scissors and ribbon for the ceremony!) These are great opportunities for the City -- including staff and elected officials, namely the Mayor and Councilmembers -- to welcome the business to Milton and let the community know all about it.

These are fun, impactful occasions, reflecting the high value that the City places on our new and existing businesses. Photos will be taken on-site during the ribbon cutting ceremony and shared on the City’s social media channels afterwards. City ribbon cuttings take place during weekdays and during regular business hours.

If you are interested in this opportunity to introduce your new business and would like to schedule a City ribbon cutting, please complete and submit the form at the bottom of this webpage. (If you have questions, you can call 678-242-2500 or email info@miltonga.gov.) We encourage you to plan at least 30 days in advance so that we can best accommodate your celebration.

We are so happy you have selected Milton to open your new business, and we look forward to supporting and nurturing your success!
