The Milton Tree Inventory, Assessment and Management Plan was funded by the Georgia’s Urban Forestry and Community Forestry Grant Program, a partnership of the U.S. Forest Service and the Georgia Forestry Commission in the amount of $20,000.

The program's mission is to help communities recognize the value of their community forest resources in order to maximize associated benefits and minimize relevant risks.

The Milton Tree Inventory, Assessment and Management Plan focused its inventory of targeted high-use areas along public rights-of-way (ROW) and in parks which included the areas of: Arnold Mill Road/Ga. 140; Crabapple; Ga. 9/Cogburn Road; Bell Memorial Park; Bethwell Community Center; Birmingham Park; and Hopewell House.

In total, 3,598 sites collectively representing more than 10,000 trees were collected during the inventory, including:

  • 2,515 individual trees
  • 643 vacant planting sites
  • 440 stands of trees

These trees and planting sites were recorded and assessed, and a tree maintenance schedule was developed and presented in the tree management plan.

This project is the first step towards pursuing a maintenance program for sustaining Milton’s lush community forests.
