Residential permits are generally required for the following scopes of work:
- New single-family residences/townhomes
- Additions and renovations (bedrooms, bathrooms, decks, garages, kitchens, structural work, windows, etc.)
- Basement, attic, bonus-room finishes
- Storage, sheds, detached accessory structures
- Moving or adding plumbing service or appliances
- Moving or adding electrical wire or services
- Adding or replacing HVAC mechanical equipment
Permits are not generally required for:
- Wallpapering, painting (interior and most exterior surface finishes)
- Floor coverings
- Cabinets, counter tops
- General maintenance and maintenance of appliances
Once the permit has been accepted for review, approval or revision comments are issued (for all permit types) within 10 business days.
