Milton Trails Advisory Committee (MTAC)

The Milton Trails Advisory Committee (MTAC) works with City staff on adding and improving connectivity, adding and promoting access to nature trails, and other valued opportunities for people to walk, bicycle and even ride horses around Milton. Its official mission -- as determined by Committee members in September 2022 -- is to "preserve the rural nature of Milton through the planning and development of an all-encompassing trail network serving as the liaison between City Council, staff, and the residents of Milton.

The City first established MTAC in June 2019 to work on a trails plan for Milton. That group’s goal was to prioritize pedestrian-friendly access around the city and accentuate Milton’s natural beauty. Those efforts focused on Crabapple, Deerfield, Birmingham Park and the Lackey Road greenspace, culminating in the passage of the Milton Community Trail Prioritization Plan that can be found HERE.

This Committee disbanded following this Plan’s approval. But both the City’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan and 2021-2025 Strategic Plan proposed to revive Milton Trails Advisory Committee (MTAC). The City Council did that in April 2022. A few weeks later, seven members – one selected by the Mayor and each Council member – were formally appointed to the committee.

The reconstituted MTAC will advise City staff on implementing the existing Milton Community Trail Prioritization Plan. They will provide valuable ideas and feedback on other efforts to add and upgrade trails around the city, to include sidewalks, multi-use paths and even bike lanes, in addition to traditional nature trails.
