The Milton Sustainability Advisory Committee will share insights, opinions, and expertise with City staff and leaders on environmental and sustainability-related issues and initiatives. These include the City’s development of an updated Recycling and Solid Waste Management Plan that accounts for changes within Milton, demand for recycling infrastructure, and other factors.

The first iteration of an MSAC-type board -- called the Trash and Recycling Advisory (TARA) Committee -- was established in 2008. This group worked with City staff to develop Milton's first Council-adopted plan for solid waste collection; you can view that 2008-2018 Solid Waste Management Plan by clicking HERE. After the TARA Committee disbanded, the City adopted its 2021-2025 Strategic Plan which included an objective to identify opportunities to improve the management of solid waste collection that aligns with sustainable best practices. That led, in December 2022, to the City Council's adoption of an ordinance establishing MSAC.

Committee members are selected by the Mayor and each Council member. MSAC will aid and advise City staff in the development of a Recycling and Solid Waste Management Plan, offering feedback to ensure that this next plan is in keeping with the City's sustainability initiatives and goals.
