The development of Milton's 2040 Comprehensive Plan is nearing the homestretch. To make the final version even better, the City's Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee wants to hear more from you - starting with a Virtual Public Engagement Forum.
Citizens are encouraged to share their input at
www.miltonga.gov/engagement. (Scroll down for the items labeled **NEW!!") In just 10 minutes or so, anyone can help steer the City in the right direction by doing the following:
- Adding thoughts and ideas about the ideal future of Milton's "character areas." These are defined areas of Milton -- each with distinct attributes, challenges and opportunities. Through an electronic map feature, you can add comments and placemaking suggestions (similar to placing a sticky note on a large area map).
- Completing three brief surveys that touch on...
- Land use, funding public asset acquisitions, and generally preserving Milton's rural character. For example, citizens can offer opinions regarding "Transfer of Development Rights (TDR)" and whether or not they support for additional bond referendums to pay for more active parks, greenspaces and public venues.
- Zoning, ordinance and use permits. This includes questions regarding larger lot zoning categories, policies on short-term rentals (think AirBnB and VRBO), and your thoughts on agritourism uses on larger lot agricultural/equestrian properties.
- Commercial, higher density, mixed-use. You can tell us if you'd be open to more high-density development and what "features" (whether it's greenspace or office space, pickleball courts or performing arts venues) you'd like in mixed-use developments.
This Virtual Public Engagement Forum reflects feedback the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC) has received, to date, from people around Milton. And it drills down on select items that CPAC members will be focusing on throughout April and May.
This is just the latest way that the 2040 Comprehensive Plan's "project team" has sought out citizens' viewpoints. We have also heard from citizens at work sessions, via Facebook posts and during "Community Education Sessions." These efforts reflect the high priority placed on ensuring that Milton residents have opportunities to help shape the Comprehensive Plan, a document that will guide policymakers and drive impactful projects for years to come.
The virtual engagement forum will wind down in early-to-mid April. And it is just one of several things happening that month related to the Comprehensive Plan including:
- Another CPAC work session starting at 6 p.m. on April 14 - this one focused on comparable cities to Milton, historical perspectives and land use
- A "pop-up" event around midday on April 17 at Bell Memorial Park, giving citizens the chance to engage project team members in-person
- A status report update to the City Council the evening of April 19
