Expect delays Oct. 14-16 for Freemanville-Birmingham project 'topping off'

Post Date:10/10/2024 10:09 AM
Freemanville BirminghamThe final round of paving around the new Freemanville-Birmingham roundabout should take place October 14-16 – timed intentionally for three Fulton County School off-days, ideally lessening congestion and the impact on drivers.

Crews have been working for months on this TSPLOST-funded project, which aims for a smoother, more efficient traffic flow on those two connector roads. Next week’s paving marks a pivotal step, after which point the roundabout-and-then-some should be substantially complete. (People afterwards may still notice workers in the area doing some things, like installing landscaping, but the impact on drivers should be relatively minimal.)

Yet “topping out” a roundabout – i.e. finishing off the paving – can be a bit of a process. For that reason, people should be prepared for significant delays next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday given temporary blockages of certain lanes. Weather and other factors could push back that timeline, though the hope is to have everything done before students return to school (along with the vehicles that bring them back and forth from there) on Thursday, October 17.
