All are welcome to attend the August 21 meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. It can also be viewed online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy257FI0E7E.

The Milton Equestrian Committee (or MEC) consists of seven individuals, appointed by the City’s Mayor and Councilmembers, with different sorts of relevant equestrian experiences and perspectives. This board considers matters of importance to the greater equestrian community, sharing their views and expertise with City staff and leaders.

Wednesday’s meeting, as is customary, will begin with subcommittee reports. After talking about equestrian facilities, the committee will turn to its marketing and community relations efforts. The latter includes a regular “Ask the Equestrian” feature that, a few short weeks ago, explained the different equestrian competitions at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Beyond online education, MEC also participates in in-person outreach in various ways. One of the highlights every year is Crabapple Fest, Milton’s most popular event that will take place downtown on October 5.

The committee then will turn to issues related to farm ownership. This will include an update on fire safety effort at the Wills Park Equestrian Center which, while in Alpharetta, is an important facility for many Milton horse owners and enthusiasts.

MEC next will discuss new horse farms that are being created here in Milton.

The lone “New Business” item is to talk about how Milton Equestrian Committee members can be more involved at other public meetings – like those of other City committees and other forums that welcome input – to advocate for and explain equestrian matters.

The August 21 agenda’s final item is a discussion of short-term rentals to facilitate developing, growing, and enriching the equestrian community.

After this meeting, the Milton Equestrian Committee is next scheduled to convene on September 18.
