NOTE: This post has been updated with the latest draft sketch for this property, as well as mentioning another prospective City land purchase -- for 10.5 acres off Arnold Mill Road -- that will also be discussed at the June 24 meeting.
People will have another chance to consider possibilities for a future active athletic complex off Deerfield Parkway – including revised sketches showing what might go where – at a meeting later this month.
On April 22, the City went under contract to purchase 21.37 acres at 300 Deerfield Parkway (across from the Verizon offices) as space for a potential new active park. Still, before the 90-day due diligence period ends and the City closes on the property, City leaders wanted
to give citizens the opportunity to share their opinions.
The first time was on May 16 as part of Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) meeting. The second will be on June 24 during a “special called” PRAB meeting, again starting at 6 p.m. and at City Hall’s Council Chambers.
Outside experts incorporated feedback from the May 16 meeting to revise sketches showing what – specifically things like rectangular fields, baseball diamonds, pickleball courts, and parking – could go on the Deerfield Parkway property. These are very preliminary sketches that could and likely will evolve over time as PRAB and City Councilmembers share their guidance.
Anyone wishing to offer their thoughts on what should, and should not, go in such a park can do so at the June 24 meeting.
If the property is deemed a good location for an active park, there will be another completely separate and much more comprehensive design process that outlines, in much more detail, what is built on the property and exactly where it will go.
At this meeting, people can also share their thoughts on the City's prospective purchase of 10.5 acres around 12875 Arnold Mill Road. This property is also in the "due diligence" phase, meaning the City has an agreement but hasn't closed on the land yet. You can learn more about this by
