Does your child love the outdoors? Do they enjoy a walk in the park? Are they fascinated by wild animals, birds, or bugs? Or just as intrigued by beautiful and cool-looking trees and plants?
Then they’re invited to a special guided hike this Monday, April 15, starting at 5 p.m., through Providence Park.
And they’re invited, too, to become one of Milton’s first Junior Rangers.
The hike itself kicks off Earth Week in Milton, which consists of several interactive ways for people of all ages to connect with nature. (Go to https://www.miltonga.gov/Home/Components/News/News/2312/1351/ to see and sign-up for other Earth Week events.) And this very same hike also marks the launch of the City’s new Junior Ranger program. You can sign-up for that and other free activities at www.miltonga.gov/EarthWeek.
Aimed at boys and girls in the 2nd through 6th grades, this program provides hands-on ways for kids to explore, learn, and love their time outside. It’s along the same lines of what you’ll find in many state and national parks.
While Monday’s hike will be a group venture, anyone can take steps to become a Junior Ranger at anytime. The City has created a special workbook – which you can find at https://www.miltonga.gov/home/showdocument?id=7531 – that gives them ways to dive into topics like fish, leaves, wildlife, and even sustainability. All of it is designed with Milton in mind, including native plants that thrive here, parks to visit, and more.
Those children who participate can be given badges at a City ceremony. To pick a time and learn more about the program, go to www.miltonga.gov/JuniorRanger.
