All are invited later this month to an Open House in a home-away-from-home for older adults who come together for meals, activities, and great company – the Milton Senior Center.
This event showcasing what this special center is all about will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 23. It will happen in and around the Milton Senior Center located in the City’s historic Thomas Byrd Sr. house, which is at 15690 Hopewell Road by the Birmingham Road roundabout.
Anyone can attend, including seniors already active at the facility, others interested in getting involved, and people who would like to learn more for their age 60-plus relatives and friends. That said, the Milton Senior Center asks those who will be coming to call 770-475-7500 to RSVP.
The Milton Senior Center is run by the City's partners at Senior Services North Fulton. For the first time in years, the non-profit now has the ability to transport more participants to this center – making it easier, and more convenient, for more people to benefit.
Open Monday through Friday (except for holidays), the Milton Senior Center is a place where Fulton County residents aged 60 and over can go to find community. Activities include yoga, tai chi, knitting, creating art, games, and more that are perfect for those who find classes at the gym too rigorous. Participants get free lunches and can get free transportation to-and-from the Byrd House (if bus seats are available).
The May 23 Open House is a great opportunity to learn about these programs and other services, as well as to meet people behind them. Beyond that, people can enjoy additional elements of that Wednesday’s festivities, such as:
- Getting free blood pressure checks performed by Milton firefighters
- Learning fall prevention tips from Wellstar North Fulton hospital personnel
- Hearing from Milton Mayor Peyton Jamison
- Picking up valuable information from Milton Police officers about protecting yourself from scams
- Enjoying a performance by members of the Vitality Senior Living community's bell choir
The City of Milton is honored to support this event, as well as the Milton Senior Center and the older adults generally who have contributed – and who continue to contribute – so much to our community.
