Members of the City of Milton’s Public Works staff and its partners at Columbia Engineering, which will help design the project, will be around the Bethany Creek neighborhood’s tennis courts and pool (2000 North Bethany Creek Drive) between 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 31, to show potential plans, answer questions, and take feedback. There will be no explicit presentation; rather, people can drop by any time in that two-hour window to interact with those on the project team.

While any changes may most directly impact those who live in Bethany Creek, this public engagement event is open to anyone who lives, drives, or otherwise has an interest in this area.

Generally speaking, the City is looking to build a roundabout, add small medians, fill in short sidewalk gaps, and add crosswalks. The pedestrian amenities are relevant because – in addition to there being considerable vehicular traffic – this intersection site about one-quarter (.25) of a mile from restaurants, stores and more along Highway 9.

Most projects of this scale would require an extensive lead-up before construction begins so that the City can purchase typically small amounts of needed land. That’s not the case in this instance, meaning that – after getting public feedback and approval from the City Council – there could be a relatively speedy process with a contractor potentially chosen by year’s end and work taking place during 2024.

The City intends to finish this project before the Georgia Department of Transportation begins its widening-plus efforts along the nearby portion of Highway 9.
