Meet the Neighbors – with the emphasis on the “neeeeeigh” – returns next month to give us humans opportunities to interact with, enjoy, and explore all things horses.
This City event, conducted in conjunction with the Milton Equestrian Committee, will take place between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. Just like last year, the 2024 edition of Meet the Neighbors will occur in the 21-acre pasture- and four-board-fence-filled greenspace at the corner of Freemanville and Birmingham roads.
People who own, ride, or even simply like horses can browse and, in many cases, buy from vendors offering equestrian-themed products, programs, and services. Besides shopping, you also can pick up food to snack on or get your face painted. There will be lots of adorable animals to mingle with, too – horses, of course, as well as bunnies, chickens, and a donkey – including ponies to ride.
In addition, Milton firefighters will demonstrate what’s involved in the Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue unit, which has the equipment and training to help animals like horses in distress. The Milton Equestrian Committee’s recently released “farm census” found more than 200 active horse farms around the city. (Click here -- https://www.miltonga.gov/Home/Components/News/News/2284/1351/ -- for more on that.) While this event will naturally appeal to those who spend time on those farms, it’s really for anyone who enjoys being around horses and wants to learn about them. In fact, many Milton residents who have never ridden a horse nonetheless feel a special connection with them given all the times they have driven past a stable or seen a quarter horse standing in a field. Meet the Neighbors is for them, too.
